Top Barriers and Drivers to SME Internationalisation

Internationalisation and international entrepreneurship among SMEs is a topic of considerable relevance, principally owing to the observed growth effects of cross-border venturing, and the demonstrated capacity of SMEs to drive economic development at national, regional and global levels. A new report presents an in-depth analysis of the top barriers to SME internationalisation identified in previous OECD-APEC research, and offers deeper understanding of the measures aimed at addressing top barriers. It also reviews recent work on the factors that drive the internationalisation of SMEs.

The Impact of the Global Crisis on SME and Entrepreneurship Financing and Policy Responses

The present report analyses the impact of the global crisis on SMEs and entrepreneurs’ access to finance and present strategies so far adopted by governments to deal with the problem. The report also brings to the attention of governments recommendations to tackle the long-standing deficiencies in the SME financial environment, as well as to prepare SMEs and entrepreneurs for a phase of innovation-led growth.
